What to expect

  • The dark and light previews use the same selected color.
  • Discord normally shows the color of a member's highest colored role.
  • Saved colors stay in the current browser on this device.
  • The picker previews color only; it does not change role permissions.

Find a Discord role color that stays easy to read

See the role name in familiar places

Enter a role name such as Moderator, Support, or Member. The preview shows the color in a Discord-style chat message, role label, and member list.

Switch between dark and light backgrounds. A color that looks clear on one background can be harder to read on the other.

Choose a color in the easiest way

Start with one of the ready colors, use the color picker, or paste a HEX code you already have. Random gives you another idea, while Make lighter or Make darker adjusts the same color.

Every change appears in the preview straight away, so you can compare a few choices without editing your Discord server each time.

Choose readability before decoration

Use the reading note as a helpful warning, then judge the actual dark and light previews yourself. Very dark colors can disappear on a dark background, while very pale colors can fade on a light one.

Role color changes how a name appears; it does not change the role's permissions. Set permissions and role order separately in Discord.

Copy the color or build a small palette

Copy role color gives you the HEX code to use in Discord. If you are planning several roles, save up to eight named colors in the palette and copy the list when you are done.

In Discord, open the server's role settings, choose the role, add the custom color, and save it. If a member has several colored roles, Discord normally shows the color of the highest one in the role order.

A quick role color check

The preview and copied HEX code use the same selected color.

  • The role name is clear in chat and the member list
  • The color works on both dark and light backgrounds
  • The copied HEX code matches the preview
  • The role order will show the color you expect
  • Saved palette names are easy to understand later
